Discover Achill Seascape With James
I’m James, your skipper and the heart behind Achill Seascape. Fourteen years ago, I fell in love with Achill Island and its wild beauty, trading in the mainland for a life surrounded by dramatic cliffs, captivating history, and vibrant marine life.
With Achill Seascape, I’m not just offering boat trips – I’m sharing my passion for this incredible island. Whether you dream of exploring hidden coves, venturing to Achill Beg, or encountering dolphins and whales, I’m here to guide you on an unforgettable adventure.

My vessel is a testament to quality and sustainability. Built locally in Bunbeg, County Donegal by the skilled hands of Timmy Boyle (who also serves the community as part of the Bunbeg Coastguard), it’s a reliable and eco-friendly way to explore Achill’s waters.

My Story
Having a young family. I love showing my children the incredible marine environment here. That’s why I decided to start Achill Seascapes. I trained at the Seamanship Centre in Killybegs, and my qualifications include Advanced Powerboating, Navigation, and Rec 3 First Aid. I’m also a qualified regional and national tour guide, and I’ve completed Lowland Leader Training, Leave No Trace Awareness, and other certifications. Whenever possible, I like to support charities and groups that align with my values, like the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group and Leave No Trace.
Sustainable Tourism
What is Eco-Tourism/ Sustainable Tourism?
Eco-tourism is about immersing yourself in nature while respecting its delicate balance. It’s about responsible travel that conserves the environment, supports local communities, and educates visitors about the importance of preserving our natural heritage for generations to come.
The Most Commonly Asked Questions
-
While we don’t get soaked on every trip, our open RIB boats are exposed to the elements. Windy days mean there’s a higher chance of sea spray, so the windier it is, the wetter you might get! It’s a good idea to bring a waterproof jacket if you have one, to keep the wind off and stay warm (it can get chilly at sea, even on warmer days). We also have waterproof tops, trousers, boots, and hats available, but we have limited sizes and quantities.
-
We carry up to 9 passengers per boat.
-
When it comes to viewing wild animals, there is nothing we can guarantee 100% as wildlife can be unpredictable. Dolphins are seen regularly, especially July. However, there is no real pattern to where or when we will see dolphins, nor is there a better time of year or day, but we do know the best places to search and there are amazing views every direction you look!
